Re-photographing work for my portfolio.

|Wonderland| test piece
I started to think about what that would be or mean to people of my own age; in a way, how do we achieve our own ‘wonderland’. Obviously a lot of people drink, or think that the only way they can have fun is if they are drunk. The word also suggests to me dreams and confusion so looked at photos I’ve taken clubbing which are at extreme angles with strange light effects.
Gouache, bleach and cardboard.
Some sketchbook pages for my first week in fine art.
I’m loving it in the studios, but I’m also trying to work outside the dreaded comfort zone so this work is experimental.

These images show my last set of work towards and the final outcome of the summer ‘environment’ project set by UCA. Having made another trip back to Dungeness I started drifting more towards texture and a lack of realism in my experimental pieces. These were especially influenced by a juxtaposition between urban and natural surroundings; nature taking over urbanisation, the irony in a natural process like oxidisation affecting a material associated with man and putting a found object into an opposite type of environment and seeing/imagining how it would cope.
The feedback of my outcome suggested that people found these comparisons within the work, but also other ideas such as the representation of a memory, thinking of different places to the ones you were in and deterioration.
Bleach on ink is quite possibly the best thing ever.
|In fact bleach in general is such a great, unpredictable medium.|
